Toward Human-Computer Collaboration
نویسنده
چکیده
Following an analysis of human collaborative activities, we identify key features of an effective collaboration between humans and computers in open environments and present a conceptual framework for the design of collaborative interaction systems. Based on these principles, we propose an open architecture (OSCAR) and describe a prototype implemented on top of a flexible multi-agent system shell, RACE.

The evolution toward exible work
The simultaneous evolution of personal computing tools and networks has focused attention on the notion of harnessing computer technology to assist in human collaboration on group work. While personal productivity tool technology and use have reached a high level of sophistication, the most basic ideas for how computer technology should assist in collaboration across the network have not yet co...
متن کاملIMPACT OF SYNCHRONOUS COMPUTER-MEDIATED COMMUNICATION ON EFL LEARNERS’ COLLABORATION: A QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS
For the last two decades, computers have entered people’s lives in an unprecedented manner in a way that almost everybody considers life without them rather impossible. In recent years, researchers and educators have been trying to discover how computers and the Internet technology can maximize the quality of language instruction. As such, the present experimental study sought to investigate th...
متن کاملThe Impact of Mediational Artifact Types on EFL Learners’ Writing Complexity: Collaboration vs. Asynchronous Artifacts
The present study was an attempt to investigate the significance of environmental changes on the develo p- ment of writing in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) context with respect to the individual. This study also compared the impacts of collaboration and asynchronous computer mediation (ACM) on the writing complexity of EFL learners. To this end, three intact writing classes were designate...
متن کاملTowards a New Approach to Tightly Coupled Document Collaboration
Currently document collaboration typically proceeds using tools such as CVS or vendor-specific Computer Supported Collaborative Work (CSCW) and Electronic Meeting (EM) messaging systems. Both regulate essentially asynchronous loosely coupled collaboration. The prime disadvantages of these technologies are that often documents are checked out or distributed in their entirety and that human inter...
